We have started work on this Grade 1 listed property near Lewes, East Sussex. There is a comprehensive program of repairs funded by an English Heritage grant. Our work is concerned with repairs to plain and ornate lath ceilings, ornamental plaster, and conservation of exterior plaster Cartouches.
We are starting with securing ceiling plaster in the 30 meter Long Gallery, lath and plaster repairs in the Great Hall to the Georgian double coved plaster ceiling, and we are conserving some old graffiti in a hidden space in the roof. The external stone work is also being repaired using lime mortar tinted with stone dusts and sands to match the original stones. This type of work is known as a 'plastic repair' or 'mortar repair', and involves fixing armatures into the damaged stone to hold the new mortar in place.
